Yes, New World Prep works to meet the goals and objectives outlined in students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEP). However, just as with any school, not every charter school provides an appropriate placement for every child. New World Prep offers an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) model, which places about 60% general education and 40% special education scholars in the same class along with 2 teachers. ICT services are provided in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science classes. Parents should review their child’s IEP prior to making any academic decision to ensure that that are in a school that meets all of their academic needs.
Interested students must apply directly to the school. There are several ways in which families can acquire an application:
- Visit our school’s Main Office.
- Apply to the school through the Charter Center’s Common Online Charter School Application.
New World Prep also host Open Houses throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to tour the school, meet staff members, and complete an application
The New World Prep Lottery takes place at the beginning of April, shortly after the application deadline. All applicants will be informed of their placement in the lottery via mail.
The lottery is an admissions process required by New York State law that is held when there are more student applications to a charter school than seats available. The lottery randomly selects from all applicants for admission. Students who are not selected in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list for spaces that may become available in the future.
Yes. The law requires charter schools to give preference to returning students, siblings of students already enrolled in the school and students who reside in the Community School District in which the charter school is located. Charter schools are also permitted to give preferences for applications for different criteria. As a result, New World Prep also gives preference to applicants that come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken after those who have siblings currently enrolled in the school.
No, your child does not need to be present for the application submission or the lottery. Families will be informed of their placement in the lottery via mail.
New World Prep will contact the family directly with first a letter or a phone call to let you know if your child has been accepted. If you accept admission, you will be required to complete our registration packet.
No, scholars who are accepted through the lottery will be enrolled in the school and be able to remain there in future years. Parents must let the school know that they plan to return each year.
If your child is selected, there will be a form attached to your acceptance letter that you will provide to your child’s current school. This will ensure that all documentation will be sent to New World Prep. Please consult with your child’s current school to see who should receive that information.
